Winthrop Radiology Associates, P.C. and Winthrop-University Hospital Radiology Education and Radiology Training Programs

Winthrop-University Hospital Campus The members of Winthrop Radiology Associates, P.C. and the Department of Radiology at Winthrop-University Hospital are proud that teaching other health professionals and our patients is a core mission. We not only practice excellent and compassionate medical care but work to improve the art and science of radiology and radiation oncology by teaching, publishing scientific works, and by performing clinical research.

Both the menu of options on the left side of this page and the highlighted words below link you to the specified teaching activity.

The first section, “Online Teaching from Winthrop”, will evolve and expand as we add new radiology teaching cases and other educational material designed primarily for health professions.

“Winthrop Radiology Residency” provides information about the Winthrop-University Hospital Radiology Residency Program. Our program, which is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, accepts three physicians each year as first year residents into this four-year long program.

“Medical Student Programs” describes our two programs for medical students. (1) Winthrop-University Hospital Department of Radiology is a center for the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine 3rd year medical student radiology clerkship. (2) We also provide a 4th year medical student elective for many students from other accredited medical schools in addition to those from Stony Brook. Resident physicians from other departments at Winthrop often choose to spend their elective rotation in the Department of Radiology.

“Program of Radiography” outlines our two-year program that is approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and the New York State Department of Health. We accept up to 10 students per year.

“Sonographer Clinical Rotation” introduces the two separate clinical ultrasound training rotations for student sonographers from (1) the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program of the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and (2) the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program of the Western Suffolk BOCES (New York State’s Board of Cooperative Educational Services).

“Radiation Therapist Clinical Rotation” provides clinical training for the first and second year radiation therapy students from the Radiation Therapy Program of the Allied Health Sciences Department at Nassau Community College.

“Nuclear Medicine Technologist Clinical Rotation” describes our clinical rotation for Nuclear Medicine Technology students from Molloy College.

“Winthrop Radiology Publications” lists the scientific publications published each year by our faculty and residents. Other material published by our department will be placed in this section if appropriate.

“W.U.H. Housestaff Radiology Manual” contains information for the housestaff from other departments at Winthrop-University Hospital. It includes the Radiology Department’s section locations & hours, the organizational structure of the Radiology Department, information about requesting examinations, obtaining examination results, examination preparations and the main department map.
