About Us
The Division of Radiation Oncology treats over 700 new patients yearly with
over 14,000 patient visits yearly. Our physicians participate in numerous
multidisciplinary conferences to afford our patients access to
individualized care with input from specialists in many oncologic
subspecialties. Our physicians lecture frequently throughout the year and
present research at major national oncologic meetings and journals.
IMRT
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is a newer way to deliver
radiation. For selected patients, we offer this modality for cancer
treatment. IMRT has the advantage of being able to treat tumors that
received prior radiation or to treat tumors near critical structures. Our
department has been using IMRT for over two years and our data was recently
presented at the largest national oncology meeting in the US (ASCO)
Prostate Brachytherapy
Our Prostate Brachytherapy (also known as "Prostate seeds) program is one of
the most active in the area with approximately 200 seed cases done yearly.
This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis in conjunction with
our excellent urology physicians with the majority of our patients going
home the same day. Our physicians may recommend a short course of external
beam therapy or hormonal therapy prior to see placement depending on the
individual case.
Gynecologic Oncology
Over the past 3 years our gynecologic oncology program has grown to one of
the largest on Long Island thanks to our close association with the Long
Island Gynecologic Oncologists, P.C. group. Through monthly
multidisciplinary Gynecologic Oncology conferences we are able to
individualize a patients care to assure the best possible outcome. Our
patients also have access to cutting edge protocols through our affiliation
in the GOG national research group.
